Yesterday, the member representing Ogoja/Yala federal constituency, Hon. Godwin Offiono participated in the sectoral debate/dialogue with financial sector stakeholders including the Minister of Finance and coordinating Minister of the Economy, Chief Wale Edun, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, Governor of The Central Bank Of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Olayemi Cardoso and Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr. Zacch Adedeji, during the House of Representatives plenary in the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

In line with his earlier motion on illegal deductions by banks without any sanctions by the CBN on such erring banks, Hon. Offiono queried why CBN is reluctant to use the carrot and stick approach, especially wielding the stick on errant banks in view of their culpability on Foreign exchange (FX) challenges causing economic sabotage.

In response to the above and many others, The CBN Governor assured the members of better vigilance on banks, going forward.
